The Get Reading Right Training
We know that you want every early years teacher in your school to feel confident, highly motivated and ready to implement synthetic phonics in your school right away. The Get Reading Right training is designed to do this. Our training gives your teachers the information, resources and the gusto to start their synthetic phonics teaching today.
Who are the Get Reading Right Trainers?
They are all teachers who have successfully taught synthetic phonics in dozens of classrooms
They will happily teach demonstration lessons in your school
They take on a coaching and mentoring role – you will have access to them for six weeks after the training
They are available to train face-to-face in the UK, Australia, and Asia (we have trainers based in Hong Kong and China).We also offer online training for teachers living anywhere in the world.
What training is available?
Every school will have different needs – so we let you pick and choose from the following units:
1. Introduction to Synthetic Phonics – what is synthetic phonics, how is it different and why it makes such a difference to literacy rates.
2. The Toolkit – how to get synthetic phonics up and running in your classrooms today.
3. Guided Reading – how to reinforce your synthetic phonics teaching during guided reading and how to use the Get Reading Right books.
4. Demo lessons– our trainers will happily give demonstration lessons.
5. Parents introduction – what is synthetic phonics, how is it different from the way they learnt, and how to help their children at home.
The training can be held in the following sessions:
Full day training session–allows for 4 units: £600 Half day training session – allows for 2 units: £400 Twilight session (2 hours) – allows for 1 unit: £200
Online training session (2 hours) - allows for 1 unit: £150
Rachel Tabram is the co-author of the Toolkit and a year-two teacher. She is currently based in England and is available to train anywhere in the UK.
Rachel trained and taught in theUK for 10 years and has taught in both Key Stages. Much of her expertise in synthetic phonics comes from her day to day classroom practice both as a class teacher and as a Special Needs Co-ordinator using the Get Reading Right Toolkit for the basic code (part one) and the advanced code (part two) with her class.
Jo-Anne Dooneris the co-author of the Toolkit and director of Get Reading Right. She is available to train in Australia and Asia.
A teacher for over 20 years she has taught reading in Australia, Indonesia,Japan and Hong Kong.She is currently a Vice Principal and literacy coordinator in a large school. Having set up a successful synthetic phonics programme in her school 5 years agoshe became a real convert after seeing that zero reading failure is a real possibility.
Anne Ross is a New Zealand trained teacher with over 30 years experience as a class teacher and literacy co-coordinator. She is a trained Phono-Graphix reading therapist and synthetic phonics consultant. She has achieved very impressive results with synthetic phonics in the schools where she has trained, especially in EAL classrooms. She is available to train right across Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
