Everything you Need for your
Synthetic Phonics Planning and Teaching

Two teacher's handbooks will take you and your class step-by-step through the basic code (part one) and the advanced code (part two).

The Toolkit is compatible with Letters and Sounds. Use it alongside to give you the structure and multi-sensory resource to ensure every child learns to read and spell.

Your Planning Ready to go...

Included are your daily lesson plans taking you step-by-by-step through all of the 44 phonemes. The lesson plans are designed so you have all the information you need on one page: your teaching objectives, what you need, the structure of the lesson and ideas for support and extension. The Toolkit also includes formative and summative assessment.

The Toolkit also includes lesson plans which guide you through the teaching of the Letters and Sounds irregular, high frequency words. This is a tough name for a five year old so Get Reading Right calls them 'camera words'. This is because children need to take a picture of the tricky part in their 'mind's eye'. There are lots of fun and multi-sensory games and activites included to make the learning of the camera words easier.

Both the phonics and the camera word lesson plans follow the four part structure outlined in the Letters and Sounds guidance;

Objectives and Success Criteria

Your objective: 'what I am teaching'

Children's objective: written in childspeak; 'what we're learning'

Success criteria: childspeak 'how did we do?'

Revisit and Review 'Tuning in'- whole class work where previous lessons are reviewed and the new phonemes introduced.
Teach 'Learn with me' -  whole class group work on the new phonemes with a group game/activity.
Practice and Apply

'Your turn' and 'back together' - Children play individual/small group games and activities to practise and apply their learning. The guided reading section of the Toolkit is another opportunity to practise and apply.

Guided Reading

To become the most successful reader children need to make the link between reading and real books from day one. That's why guided reading is so core to The Synthetic Phonics Toolkit. Included are guided reading plans and activities so your children can once again practice and apply the synthetic phonics knowledge they have just learnt.
