Successful Readers Begin with
Real Books from Day One!
Colourful, fun and small enough for each child to hold their own book, the Letters and Sounds books get children reading real books from day one of learning to read. "The children in my reception class really loved the books. They are colourful and targeted: the children really liked the fact they could read a book by themselves."Carol Johnston, Bexley, London.
How do children using the Playing with Sounds books become such confident readers and spellers?
They are getting success – they read every word in a real book
Having no picture clues ensures they read not guess
They are get lots of practice with 40 words per level using the target phoneme
The Get Reading Right camera book reinforces those irregular, high frequency words that are so essential to progress with their writing
In Series two children read sentences which use all the different representations for one phoneme. For example the /ee/ book includes: "Mummy keeps the dog clean." Using the representations: y, ee and ea. Children learn all the representations for a word so they can choose the one that ‘looks right’ – spelling!
Parents can deliver the same consistent message at home – decoding, as a first strategy to read (there are full parent’s instructions inside every book).
